Can I use generative AI in my project or store?
It depends.
Limited use of generative AI is permitted for promotional materials (such as trailers, promotional images, and project or item descriptions), as long as those items are not offered as Backer-redeemable rewards.
If you use generative AI to create rewards or store items for sale, you must clearly disclose it in the first paragraph of your project description. Your description must also specify:
the scope of the project that is your original work,
which reward components are AI-derived,
the specific AI tools and datasets used, and
that any works included in training datasets were used with full, informed consent from their rights holders.
Any reward tier that includes an AI-generated product must be explicitly labeled. Projects that do not meet these disclosure requirements are unlikely to be approved.
We do not allow generative AI to depict prototypes. If you need to show prototypes, consider using CGI or physical models instead to better align with Backer expectations.
If you use generative AI and fail to disclose it, rewards tied to that content will be revoked. Further actions may include suspension of the project and losing the ability to create new projects.
